Well I did it! I completed the 3 1/2 month STS program and it feels so good. I'm stronger and have more definition that when I started but what I really love is the effort and consistency that I had throughout this program. Having some structure definitely kept me motivated and honest. It's made me realize how important it is for me to map something out for myself and take time up front to plan for my workout rotations and be specific. This will be especially important for me in the summer when it's all too easy for strength training to fall by the wayside when nice cycling weather arrives. For me it's not enough to just put cardio or chest & triceps... I need a detailed plan with times, goal (for cardio - is it steady-state, intervals, leg endurance, leg speed, etc), the weights that I will use (This was vital for me and allowed me to easily get what I needed instead of doing a lot of trial and error during my actual workout time.)
I've already marked down on my calendar when I want to do this rotation again... November 2010! I will likely use all of the separate DVDs in various ways until then - or I may even repeat one of the mesocycles - since they are great on their own but I know the next time I want to do the whole shebang is in November. Winter is the ideal time for me to focus on strength training in the comforts of my basement.
I have been wanting to do a few weeks or a full month of mainly yoga for a while now and think that might be what's up next. Has anyone done this before? I feel it would be a great next step and an appropriate action of my word for this year (more on that next week when I can string together some cohesive thoughts. Read: when the kids go back to school.)
Here's what the week looked like:
