This is what my foot looks like (the one on the top was Tuesday and the one on the bottom was Thursday night). I can't get a photo of the bottom because every time I do it ends up blurry because I'm too close to it. Today is three weeks since my surgery to remove two neuromas and I am still not able to put pressure on my foot. I do have increased mobility in the foot itself, or rather the ankle would be more accurate but I never realized just how much you need to cooperation of the foot to flex your foot up even though most of the action/rotation is at the ankle. So I'm able to move that more and sleep without my foot propped up on a pillow (which is good because having my leg up in the air a good couple of inches for 2.5 weeks was throwing things out of alignment in my hips and back. The hip bone's connected to the.... leg bone... the leg bone's connected to the... ooo sorry, I started singing mid-post.
My spirits are up, though, because I am able to do more than last week. I have been driving around with my left food still and I've bathed consistently for 3 days straight. That's a record for me in these last 3 weeks. Showers are still impossible but I'm glad we have a big tub that I'm able to get in and out of (though I've come to realize that I really, really think baths are disgusting. I'll spare you further thoughts on this but let's just leave it at that. I'm looking forward to showering again).
I have a doctor's appointment later today. I'm hoping, as I was last Friday, that today is the day that the sutures are able to come out. And I hope to get some answers.
Other things going on today:
- Our friend let us borrow Sequence States and Capitals and Ryan and I played this morning and we really enjoyed it. The pace of the game is much slower so a game takes longer but it's for ages 7+. I wanted to test-drive this with Jessica because she's the intended target, as she's getting a bit old for the Sequence for Kids (which we all still love - me included - but I'm a sucker for good games as anyone in my house will tell you), but she was already at school when Ryan got the game out and started setting things up. We'll definitely have to do this over the long weekend.
- freaking out over filling out passport applications because we might be traveling overseas next month (!!) and going to get our passport photos taken
- taking a friend out for lunch
- watch our front yard transformation: the large, gnarly roots of 12 bushes that didn't survive the snowpocalypse are coming out and 5 verdant boxwoods are being planted in their place (why such a small number? Because the 12 that the previous owners planted there were way too densely packed in for that space and we have other plans for the area that I will get to as soon as I'm able to be up and about and working hardcore in the garden again), the tree that we've watched slowly decay over the last 2 years is coming down (before it decides to have an unplanned meeting with the roof of our house and takes out on of the kids' bedrooms)
- need to buy more bras (online, as I just got a catalog showing the bras that I wear are on sale at VS and I need more) <-- it's hard to decide which I hate more: bra shopping or bathing suit shopping but I've had to do both in the last two weeks and all from the comforts of my bed... which is just fine by me since it's much quicker this way, I'm spared of the anguish that comes with it, and I don't have to step inside a mall (I don't like malls. They give me a headache. A real and physical headache and I just want to go to a quiet place after visiting one, especially if the kids are with me.)
- UPDATED TO ADD: go through last few issues laying around of Fine Cooking and Vegetarian Times and add the recipes that I want to add to my ongoing Word document for easy go-to meal planning!!
Getting together coach gifts for Girls on the Run since the end-of-the-season party was on Tuesday (and I will be coaching in some capacity again next year: either head coach or assistant, we haven't worked out the details yet but they are revamping the content and I'm looking forward to be a part of this again and Jessica is very excited about this too).
I printed out daily journaling prompts that we're going to be using this summer. I started slicing them up and since I can't get to the store to get a jar and make it all pretty yet, it's going into a big plastic bag until some undetermined time in the future when I can.
The idea is that the kids will reach in and pick on each day and we'll all spend some time writing together as a way to strengthen thought processing, writing, and handwriting. In Ryan's case I'm going to encourage him to write a little and also draw a picture. And did I mention that I spent a bunch of time working on a Summer Bingo project for the kids that I read about a few years ago from Stacy Julian? It's an amazing idea and I've got my first few cards ready to go, a folder printed out for the kids (with their summer schedule, the rules, and a reference sheet), and a small list of things to get once I can get to the office supply store. I'll share more of my stuff and have some downloads on another post.
I got together little gifts and cards for the kids as a thank you for all the help they've given Mike and me during my recovery. They've been wonderful.
On Monday when I went to the store I bought a bunch of cards since it's the end of the school year: in addition to the coaches cards there are many teacher to thank and I've also been writing out thank you cards to Mike for all of his help and to our amazing group of friends. I don't know what I would have done without them. I have been truly awed by the support that my friends have shown. I am immensely grateful and am so humbled by their generosity.
