I typically favor white wines (with Alsace and German Rieslings being my favorite - and Washington state too, New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc a close second; I've never met a Chardonnay that I've liked... Still going to try to find one that I *do*) but I'm trying to explore more reds to figure out what I like and what I don't.
This wine, a 2004 Bodegas Lan Rioja Gran Reserva, was very good and one I would surely seek out in the future. It wasn't too tannic and I could still taste the fruit so it was a thumbs up. Mike loved it too. I'm still learning my way through things one sip at a time. I was able to smell berries, as opposed to only alcohol, but I still can't get quite as specific as I'd like with my descriptions. That comes with time I suppose. I've found a red that I enjoy and that's a good thing around here.
I've never tried a Malbec before and I'm going to buy one next week when I'm at the store to try as my next exploratory red.
Cheers! L'chiam!
