Dun nuh nuh nuh nuh nuh... It my half-birthday too yeah!
Yes, we celebrate half-birthdays around here. I'm all creating fun rituals and meaningful celebrations. It usually passes with a mention and us singing to each other (happy half-birthday to you... You get the idea) but this year I wanted to bake a cake. Baking is fun, so why not?! Last week a few baking books came in on hold for me, one of them being Dorie Greenspan's Baking: From My Home Kitchen to Yours. The cover cake looked scrumptious that I knew I had to make it though I varied it slightly, making it with four layers instead of three and not using the fourth cake half as crumb decoration. I baked the cakes yesterday and just finished up the frosting (a new one for me, but it looks much like 7-minute frosting that I've seen in books but never tried) and now we wait until after dinner to try it. It's going to be a long bunch of hours with that billowy, marshmallow frosting staring me down. But I think I can do this. I'm hyped up on sugar from licking a bit of the whisk attachment. Man, I'm such a lightweight when it comes to sugar intake. It's all that healthy, whole food eating I do. Right now I feel like I could lift a car or run around the neighborhood in 5 minutes flat or create peace in the Middle East. This crash is going to stink. I'm going to fill up on some lentils, spinach, and rice to even out the blood sugar.
We have a meeting in a little bit with a 2nd kitchen contractor (we're aiming for 3 bids) and then I'm volunteering at school so that'll help me keep my mind off of vanilla frosting goodness on my counter. Lets do this Wednesday!! Game on.
