A little over a week ago on Friday when I picked the Jessica up from school (on the day that Ryan was sick so he stayed home while Mike worked in his office) as soon as she entered the car she was talking a mile a minute about how she has to learn to knit and she really wants me to show her how as soon as possible.
I have been hoping she would want to knit someday. I tried to teach her a few years ago but she wasn't ready and was easily frustrated.
What's eery is that on the very same day around mid-morning I had a feeling that arose that sparked the idea that when she came home from school that day I would ask her again if she might be read to try knitting. Isn't that amazing that maybe at the exact same time she was thinking about it while sitting in her 4th grade classroom at school that I was also thinking it less than a mile away in our house?
I started her off on some plastic 10 1/2 needles that I had at home and she picked out some green yarn that I had and she was completely ready this time around.
The next morning we went to AC Moore to pick out her own set of needles (the pink needles were offending her sense of style since she's not at all a "pink" girl. I realize the irony of this given that she was dressed in head-to-toe pink on that Friday but I opted not to point that out to her, because truly she really doesn't like pink. Besides she's probably only wearing pink because we had to purchase it to fill in her wardrobe because, truthfully, how many things can you really find for a girl that are blue/aqua in a given season?!! Answer: not enough!).
She picked out some bamboo needles (again 10 1/2) and this beautiful ball of variegated yarn in her favorite hues. She's ripped it out and started over probably 8+ times by now but she is having a great time creating her first scarf! This was a practice one where we only started with 10 stitches but for the one she is making for herself now we started off with 20 stitches.
Yesterday morning... oat deliciousness returned!!
This oatmeal breakfast contains:
- 1/3 cup rolled oats
- 1 cup of milk
- 2 tablespoons of quinoa flakes
- sprinkle of cinnamon and salt
- 1/2 banana (sliced and then mixed in as the mixture is cooking)
Topped with some almond butter, Crofter's jam, French Vanilla almond granola! Mmmm. A healthy way to start the day!!
