Tomorrow-is-6-weeks-since-my-foot-surgery update: Much of the swelling has gone down and this past Friday I graduated to using a cane. I'm still very bruised and cannot walk comfortably on my own but I am staying positive since I've been seeing great improvement with physical therapy. I started physical therapy about two weeks ago using two crutches and not being able to put any weight on my foot (at all!) and driving with my left foot. In 15 days I have progressed through being able to tolerate some weight on my foot using both crutches, walking with two crutches (with some weight on it), walking with one crutch (and being able to now get a plate or glass down with that free hand so I can begin to take care of my family and myself again), being able to stand with equal weight on my feet to take a shower on my own (not in the bath or showering in a chair - YAY!) or scramble up some eggs to eat, driving again with my right foot, and now I have arrived to where I am today.... woman with cane.
There have been lots of toe-marble-pick-ups in my days. It's not where I had hoped to be at this point, but I have thrown those expectations out the window. I am learning to go with the flow.
I am making progress. And this is good.

We got back into town a few days ago after a long weekend down in South Florida visiting my family and Mike's family (and attending my uncle's wedding). I had hoped to bring my computer with me so I could write some blog posts (I wanted to post about Summer Bingo weeks ago) as well as some other writing that I've wanted to do but carrying my computer was too much weight on my foot and we didn't have room for it so I had to leave it at home. As soon as I upload the pictures from my camera I will share some of the fun we had.
Today, the kids and I are going to get our passports. I'm hoping for some good government agency karma as so far dealing with them has been less than ideal and very high on frustration. One conversation ended with me in tears telling the woman on the other end, rather loudly that, "this is why government doesn't work!" (and I was a political science major and love all that stuff... but government bureaucracy isn't my favorite thing in the whole world)... should be fun. I hope I can get a good parking space that doesn't require me to walk too far to the passport agency. If all else fails I'll just get the kids to give me a piggyback ride (just kidding).
Pardon my ignorance, but why can't you get a handicap pass for your car while you're incapacitated?

Hi Sheri,
I do have one but the problem is finding a spot down there! I ended up parking in a parking garage and just cane-ing it ever so slowly with the kids. It all turned out just fine!! :-) And today I walked around without the cane at all. Yay!
Hope things are going well with you. Miss not seeing your friendly face in the morning!
